Sony sets sights on PC market with new hardware brand Inzone

Sony has launched a new hardware brand aimed at PC players. The new lineup is called Inzone and includes two 27-inch gaming monitors and three gaming headsets (two wireless and one wired).

Although Inzone doesn’t feature any PlayStation branding, there does seem to be some aesthetic overlap — with Inzone hardware combining clean lines with a matte white finish to create a look that’s reminiscent of the PlayStation 5.

In a press release, Sony also pitched both the Inzone M9 monitor and H9 and H7 headsets as “perfect for PlayStation 5,” although a new launch ad (below) seems keen to position Inzone as a PC-first brand.

“The market has been expanding with a higher interest in gaming with the spread of esports tournaments and the advancement of gaming entertainment,” said Sony’s head of game business and marketing office, Yukihiro Kitajima.

“With Sony’s strong history of high-end audio and visual technology products, we believe this new line will offer even more options for those looking to upgrade their current gaming systems. We are committed to contributing to the growth of gaming culture by providing PC and PlayStation gamers with a wider range of options to enrich lives through gaming.”

Sony has been quietly working to carve out a chunk of the PC market for itself, porting over major first-party titles including God of War, Days Gone, Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection, and Marvel’s Spider-Man to the platform.

In 2021, the company’s slate of PC releases pulled in $80 million in net sales, and Sony expects that figure to rise by 275 percent to $300 million in 2022. In short then, it seems the Japanese console maker has realized there’s gold in them there hills.
